Senior Cloud Engineer – South Africa (Fully Remote)

About the Role

You will play a pivotal leadership role in designing and implementing sophisticated hyperscaler solutions (primarily AWS), driving cloud-native modernisation initiatives, advanced automation, and mentoring the team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Architect complex, scalable, and secure cloud environments tailored to customer requirements

• Lead the transformation of legacy applications into modern Kubernetes-based cloud-native architectures

• Design and evolve Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, robust CI/CD pipelines, and GitOps workflows (ArgoCD)

• Implement observability, cost optimisation (FinOps), and embed security best practices

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and act as a technical escalation point

Mandatory Skills, Qualifications & Experience

• Extensive hands-on experience designing and implementing large-scale, secure AWS cloud environments

• Proven expertise in Kubernetes, containerisation, microservices, and modern cloud-native architectures

• Strong proficiency in Terraform (IaC), DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and GitOps principles

• Solid understanding of software development processes, application design patterns, and 12-Factor App principles

• Working knowledge of common programming languages and frameworks (Java/Spring, .NET, Python, Node.js, Go or similar)

• Experience with cloud cost optimisation, observability tools, and security/compliance frameworks

• Excellent mentorship, communication, and problem-solving skills with a passion for continuous learning

• AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional

• AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional

• AWS SysOps Administrator – Professional

• AWS Security Specialty

• HashiCorp Terraform Associate

• HashiCorp Terraform Authoring and Operations Professional

• Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA)

• Certified Kubernetes Security Specialist (CKSS)

Considered Qualifications:

• Advanced certifications in other hyperscalers (Azure Solutions Architect Expert, GCP Professional Cloud Architect)
